Crazy 88 Team starts 2018 season off collecting medals
Two groups of competitors traveled to the IBJJF Atlanta Open on February 3rd and the IBJJF Houston Open on February 10th, 2018. Team Crazy 88 starts 2018 competition season strong. Competitors from all belt levels came home with a collection of medals.
Atlanta Open – February 3rd
Navarro Chamberlain was the star of the day, bringing home Double Gold in the Masters 1 Blue Belt Heavy and Open Class Divisions. He won his first match 2-0 in his division to secure the Gold medal. He beat his first opponent in the Open Class by footlock submission, won his second on points 8-2, and his third match by 11-2. Last, Chamberlain submitted his opponent with a kimura in the Finals and took home that second Gold medal for the day.
Olivia Obodoagha won her match on judge’s decision and secured the Gold medal in the Adult Blue Belt Super Heavy Division. She won her first match in the Open Class and took home the Bronze medal in the Blue Belt Open Division.

Tye Ryan Murphy beat his first opponent 11-0. He took home the Silver medal in the Masters 1 Black Belt Medium Heavy Division. Murphy entered the Open Class and won his first match on 2 advantages and his second on points 2-0. He completed the day with another Silver medal in the Masters 1 Black Belt Open Division.
Eduardo Viana finished his first opponent by arm bar submission and his second by cross choke. He brought home the Silver in the Adult Purple Belt Medium Heavy Division. Later, he entered the Open Class and won his first match by 2 advantages but was stopped in the second round.
Amanda Riggs won her first match 2-0 and lost her second on points to take Silver in the Adult Purple Belt Feather Division.

Leah Mayes won her first match on double digit points 11-0. She took Bronze in the Adult Blue Belt Medium Heavy Division. She later entered the Open Division and won her first match 6-0 and her second by brabo choke. Mayes won her SemiFinals match 6-0 and took home the Silver medal in the Blue Belt Open Division.
Anthony Celozzi won his first match 3 advantages to 1 and won his second match 2-0. He won the Bronze medal in the Adult Blue Belt Feather Division.
Andrew Carter finished his first opponent by triangle submission and won his second on points 3-0. He also won the Bronze medal in the Adult Blue Belt Feather Division.
Jeremy Collins won his first match 11-4, but got stopped in his second match by submission. He ended up with the the Bronze medal in the Adult Blue Belt Super Heavy Division.

Houston Open – February 10th
Vannessa Griffin submitted her only weight class opponent with a bow and arrow and took home the Gold medal in the Adult Brown Belt Middle Division. Both brown belt competitors faced off again in the Open Class. Griffin beat her opponent 10-0 and won the Brown Belt Open Division to secure Double Gold for the day.
Kayla Dehm submitted her first opponent with an arm bar. She won her Finals match 3-0 on advantages and secured the Gold medal in the Adult Blue Belt Heavy Division. Dehm later won her first match of the Open Class via arm bar and her second 9-0. She took Silver in the Blue Belt Open Division losing by a narrow judge’s decision.
Leah Mayes came out strong submitted her first opponent with a kimura and her second opponent with an arm bar. She won the Finals match 2-0 and brought home Gold in the Adult Blue Belt Medium Heavy Division.
Relative newcomer to the competitor group, Tial Thang Zathang had a successful run in Houston. He won his first match 3-0, he won the QuarterFinals match with two take downs and a guard pass, and he advanced to the Finals when his opponent forfeited by injury mid-match. Zathang won the Gold medal 5-0 on points in the Adult White Belt Middle Division.

Tye Ryan Murphy was up first in Houston. He beat his first opponent 2-0. Two weeks in a row, Murphy took home the Silver medal in the Masters 1 Black Belt Medium Heavy Division. He entered the Open Class and won his first match with a cross choke from knee on belly. He finished the day with a Bronze medal in the Masters 1 Black Belt Open Division.
Byung Ju Lee won his first match by omoplata choke and won his second match by one advantage. He ended up taking the Silver medal in the Adult Purple Belt Light Division with a score of 2-2 on point, 2-2 on advantages, and 2-1 on penalties. He won one match in the Purple Belt Open Class via arm bar, and got stopped in the QaurterFinals.
Amanda Riggs lost her first match in the Adult Purple Belt Feather Division. With only four competitors, she entered the Purple Belt Open Division and won her first match on point 9-0. She took the Silver medal in the Open Class for the day.
