Go to a play or musical? Go to the theater or a movie?
If I had to choose between the theater and a movie I would definitely choose a movie. However if I had to choose between a play and a musical I would chose the musical. Sorry plays are just boring…
Hike or bike?
I have never been very big on bike riding and I grew up out in the country. So I would much rather go hiking then bike riding.
Wear jeans or chinos?
I’m a jeans guy. I rarely wear anything else, even in the summer, unless I need to dress up for something.
Crash with friends or stay in a hotel?
I love traveling and staying in nice hotels with all the amenities but I am a people person. So when given the choice I much rather stay with friends. Of course it’s nice when you get to travel with friends and enjoy the amenities!
Watch sports or play sports?
I enjoy watching sporting events with friends (whether its football or the UFC) but I much rather play sports. I have played sports my whole life but it gets harder to get people together to play sports as you get older, which is one of the big reasons I started BJJ in the first place.
If you could do anything you wanted right now, what would it be?
If I could do anything I wanted to do right now it would be training and teaching jiu-jitsu. So I guess I’m pretty lucky to be doing exactly what I want. I only wish I started sooner.
If money was no object, what would you do all day?
If money where no object I would spend time with the family and train Jiu-Jitsu all day. I would probably travel more as well, but only to places I could train or compete. haha
Where do you most want to travel, but have never been?
There are many places I would still like to travel to that I have never been. I always wanted to go to Hong Kong. Everyone that I know who has been there says the food is incredible. Since eating good food is my second passion it makes sense fore me to want o go there. Actually ever since watching “Jiro Dreams of Sushi,” I have had more interest in going to Japan.
What has been your biggest challenge?
My biggest challenge has been to stay healthy and in shape enough to train with the young guys.
What is your biggest success up until now?
Winning 3rd at Blue Belt at the Adult worlds at age 34. I put a lot of hard work and training into that run. There were many ups and downs for me that year but it all paid off. I think I will also be proud of that.
